    Constantinople Dream - Part 1

This post was supposed to be here ages ago, but I had no mojo writing it. So here I am now, jotting it down in my blog entry because I miss the place so much.

    I MISS ISTANBUL. No kidding.

Before I left to UK for my masters, I never thought I would step my foot to Istanbul as I thought it was not part of EU countries.  (Boleh tak? Ignorant is not a bliss this time) In fact, I thought it is part of middle-eastern countries. Gile bodoh saya ni. I always dreamt of going to Paris, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Rome, Venice, etc and if you can see from the list, these places are mostly 'glamorous' places (if you know what I mean) and these are the typical places that will appear in any love films almost every time.

The typical berangans that I would have after watching the film..

    1. Kena propose in front of Eiffel Tower
    2. Naik gondola in Venice
    3. Petik anggur at a vineyard in Italy.. oh and have scrumptious lunch there. Pastu naik kuda.
    4. Sesat at the dark alley in Rome (in a small Smart car for two)
    5. Eating tapas and Paella near Gaudi while learning Spanish.

Yada yada yada. Clearly Hollywood has invaded us me. Poyo

Anyway, Istanbul was lovely. Lovelier than all of those glamorous places I mentioned above and I'm not kidding. Went to Istanbul just few days before I departed to KL for good. It was supposed to be just the two of us (Dalia and I) but the two boys decided to come along. (Zanif and Fizan).

We made arrangements to stay with Dalia's Turkish friend, Ozge who is Dalia's coursemate's sister. She was extremely pretty, striking sharp features she has. I was speechless looking at her, apatah lagi the boys. Oh, and we met her housemates as well. Three beauties in the house yaw!

Meet  Ozge Ozturk - she's half Cypriot- Turkish

Ozge picked us up at the train station and we went straight to her house somewhere in Capa, dropped our luggage and started our adventure for food . It was 2 pm at that time and winter. Dark and gloomy it was, and we were damn hungry! We went to Taksim Square by taxi and Ozge brought us to this restaurant (too hungry to jot down) in the middle of Taksim Square..Oh what a feast we had.

I was too hungry to jot down the names of the food, so I just ate whatever Ozge recommended that was good. And it was GOOD. The best was the dessert (the last picture), Türk Sütlaç - Turkish Rice Pudding. Yum.

After the feast we walked a bit around Taksim and found out that Taksim Square is probably the most important square in Istanbul. It's sort of like a huge transportation hub where taxis and the main metro station are located. It's a hot spot for tourists for shopping and going to the bars or pubs, international fast food chains such as Pizza Hut, McDonald's, Burger King are also there if you've had enough of Turkish food. Taksim is also a favourite place by the locals for public events such as parades, New Year celebrations or other social gatherings. It will always be full of people any time of the day. It really reminded me of Oxford Street in London.

Our real adventure started the next day.

I loved visiting old universities, and Istanbul University is one of the oldest university, not just in Turkey, but in the world as well. Established in 1453 and this university has produced famous academicians from all around the world. The architectural buildings of Istanbul University was just mesmerizing. It's old, stout (in a good way!) and the moment I stepped into the compound of the university, oh my God, I just froze for few seconds. The whole scenery that was in front of me just knocked me off my feet. Ahaha. Masya Allah.

    The tour around the University

Hours after sightseeing at the University, we were hungry of course. So Ozge brought us to this place somewhere near the Bosporus bridge called Ortakoy. The cafe only serves Kumpir which are baked potatoes (Turkish style, not the Brit style) with 100 or more types of fillings and condiments. Interesting right?

    The journey to lunch!

    What we had! Yum.

After we're done and our tummy had been filled with good food, we walked around a bit at Ortakoy area and we noticed that the area was more relax and calm comparing to SultanAhmet and Beyazit area. Pretty much could be that those places are mainly for tourists but Ortakoy is not so bad either. It's still a tourist area but more relax. Back in the days in the history, many 'sultans' made Ortakoy as their summer residence. They have their mansions and palaces (now transformed into luxurious hotels) overlooking the straits where they can have the best view of Bosphorus and enjoy their tea cups on their hand. According to our friend, Ozge, Ortakoy is a village that is most probably envied by other districts in Istanbul because it is near the Bosphorus bridge. Bosphorus is also known as Istanbul straits that form parts of boundary between Asia and Europe. How cool is that! Normally, they will be cruises services for you to take to see parts of Asia and Europe every half and hour, but since it was winter, cruise services were only twice a day. Such a bummer but I thought the more reasons to come back here.

Next up, after all the sightseeing and camwhoring, we decided to go back to Beyazit town (near the University) and indulged ourselves with some shopping spree. The Grand Bazaar! The four of us were very much looking forward to go to the Bazaar since the first day. Not to do that much shopping,  but just to see what they have in store.

And these are the things that we were jakun about:

The art and crafts. Turkish signature.

The belly dancer's costume. Bought one for myself!

Table runners, cushion covers yada yada. Mom would love this. From laces to silk.

Many many types of Turkish delights! I don't fancy Turkish delights so much, but the ones that I ate here were exceptional!

Sweet rice pudding. Many types of them.

Not forgetting the spices. The best. Bought saffron for Mom for her beriyani rice. Mind you, saffron is expensive in many parts of the world especially Malaysia. It can be as expensive as RM 1000 for 1 kg? Depending on which type. I bought the best one for quite a cheap price in Istanbul.

    For Mr. Z? KIDDING!

Anyway, we were there at the bazaar till quite late, not that we did massive shopping, but we explore the whole of the bazaar from one end to the other. From Turkish carpets to gold! Yes, they sell big chunk of gold at the bazaar. We had dinner at the bazaar and straight for nargileh (shisha). We had our nargileh somewhere at the Sultanahmet district just across the blue mosque. There's this cafe with pretty lights and they only have nargileh and Turkish tea. The whole stretch of the place are meant just for nargileh. The apple tea was delicious. I had three cups!

What a night we had. The boys were hungry (the girls pun apa kurangnya), so Ozge invited them over for a quick bite at Capa because there are some street cafes that were still opened at that time. It's like mamak plus fast food. We had Islak (Wet burgers) and it was damnnnn. Islak only costs 2 lira, so that should be around RM 5. It's a combination of beef patty and bread dip with special red sauce that was made out of tomato paste. It was the bomb and at that time I wasn't thinking about diet or anything else. Just that!

It doesn't end there my dear friends. Right at the bottom of the street before Ozge's house, there's is one seafood restaurant that closes late at night. And in front of the restaurant, there was a bar that sells stuffed mussels. The bar serves not drinks but that. Fizan and Zanif ate lots of them. I gave up because my stomach couldn't take any food anymore, but after 15 minutes I gave it a try. Not bad. The stuffed mussels are called midye dolmasi. It is one of the most popular Mediterannean street food. The stuffings are spiced rice with raisins and we must squeeze some lemon before we eat it. I thought it was interesting. It's an acquired taste but you'll get used to it if you eat more than three.

Thirty minutes after Turkish street food indulgence, I was already on my way to lalaland. The boys went back to their hotel and probably they were also in deep slumber. What a long day but it was productive for us.

Stay tuned for part 2 where I'll be covering the historical area of Istanbul!

I Love My PB Bustier. Why?

    My Great Web page

PB Business? Have you heard about it?
Hah, meh sini ceq nak habaq ok sikit.

Just a week ago, I decided to do a business. Selling what?
    CORSETS!
Yeah, you got that right baybeh. Corsets as in the undergarment for ladies. Bustier is another word that you can call it. But the corsets that I'm selling, it's not just ANY corsets ok, it's PB corsets. Premium Beautiful corsets.
Ring a bell? Ye, brand ni bukan calang-calang.

So why I decided to do this business?

    1. Healthier body and happier me!

I've been wearing this corset on and off, since ... I can't remember la. But now, I am wearing it all the time because I need an extra 'boost' to help my body to be in good shape before my wedding. Most of the people that I know and that have been wearing PB all the time (the discipline users!)actually have lost a lot of weight and have cut down to many inches. From a UK 14 to UK 8. My mom is an example. She was a UK 16, now wearing a UK 12. She has been wearing PB since 2008, and she lost a lot of weight and can fit into most of her old dresses and jeans. As for me, since I just started wearing it back just a month ago (yang bukan 'on and off') I feel a bit different comparing to dulu. In terms of weight, I weighed myself today and saw... 2.5 kg lighter. Wow. That was fast. In less than 10 days. The best part is that I could fit into my old baju kurungs that I used to wear during Uni days. More choices of clothes to wear to work then!

Target: To be fit and have a body like Kate Beckinsale. She's not that skinny you see, she was curvaceous. I saw in her real life while I was taking a stroll in Bond Street in 2010. An epitome of a babe.
PB + Detox + Exercise (twice-thrice a week) and eat well? Insya Allah boleh.

Buttt waiittt, it doesn't end there! I got back my period! My menstrual cycle has been crazzyy for the last couple of months! I haven't been getting it for more than 5 months, and it was worrying. But after wearing PB for less than two weeks, tadaaaa. Amik ko. Nak sangat bendera Jepun kan? But it's very important for women to be concern about their menstrual cycle especially when you want to get married and plan to get babies.

    Say NO to irregular periods!

    The other perks?

How about making an extra income for yourself? Cukup ke the salary bulanan kita tu?

My answer would be: NO. TAK CUKUP. TIPU KALAU CUKUP.

    2. The Mools.

Love is more important than money.
    Ye ke?

Ok ok, it is true that we must have a balance and yada yada, but let's say you are married 'I love you and I would die if I don't have you by my side', but hutang keliling pinggang? How is that going to work out for you? Memang la cintan, paham.. but if asyik stress pasal duit je, and start blaming each other for this and that. Susah kan? Or both of you work so hard, balik lambat and all, but the salary is just enough to pay the bills, debts and food. Basic food. KFC, Chillis, Sushi King and Nasi Padang Sari Ratu can say sayonara. Would it be nice at least ONCE IN A WHILE to splurge yourself (with hubby and kids)for a good dinner at Tony Romas or Delicious? *ohh now craving for that smoked salmon caesar salad*

If you can't afford to at least buy yourself a nice dinner, how about shopping dude? How?? A girl can never have enough pair of shoes and handbags. Don't la talk about Chanel or LV, Charles and Keith which the handbags and shoes cost 100 times cheaper than those LVs and Chanels pun, terkebil-kebil. I know I couldn't afford it if I  depend on just my salary.

Weddings? *fainting now* It's cost me a fortune. I'm in the midst of preparing my big day and hell yeah it is tormenting. I am not yet tormented, but I will be soon if I'm not careful. Everything needs money in wedding preparation. I'm not going to lie to you and say it's cheap. It's bloody not.  Money don't grow on trees everyday. Money grows on my tree once a month for me (my salary lahh) and I can only use some to service my wedding expenses, and the rest? Debts and commitments. Sigh. It's sucks to be an adult right?

But then again, there are bigger things in life that we need to think about. Have you ever think about buying a house? Have savings? ASB or Public mutual? Health care? (they don't come in cheap!) Your kids welfare? Insurance? Sign. The list can go on and on and on...

Let's not focus on just materials guys. How about your parents? You know, there are just  moments when I sit back and 'berangan' about being rich and successful, the first thing I think about is my parents. My parents have given me so so much. It's priceless, even money cannot buy. My parents have sacrificed a lot for me and siblings to the extent when I want to pay them back, I don't even know where to start. The feelings would be so nice to at least give them an amount of money every month without having to calculate our salary *garu kepala* (or without having to be calculative because what we earn every month is just not enough). Chanel and LV are not really my biggest priority (though it would be so niceeee to own them), but to help my parents with their bills and debts as well as to treat them holidays locally and abroad or Umrah, ohh.. how wonderful would it be. Nak nangis pulak.

So, basically, these are the two main reasons why I'm taking part in this business; health and financial reasons. There are other perks that you will obtain along the way while you're doing this like meeting new people, expanding your network, surrounding yourself with positive people and it can also be a hobby to you. Some may question, ada ke masa? Nanti tak terjaga your own career la bla bla bla, but seriously dude, if there's a will, there will always be a way. I was skeptical at first before I joined this, but now, it's the first thing I think about when I start my day. It's just amazing. Seriously guys, it doesn't take much at all.

Oh, and the girls in my group are 90% professionals working in top notch companies in KL, so don't play-play. Ada yang Petronas, ada Bank Negara, ada Ernst and Young and ada yang business sendiri. So, if they can do it, why can't we?

Let's join me for in this fantabulous journey. You will never know until you try.

    Something New

I've always wanted to try something new. To try things that I never thought that I could do. With Allah's willing and my determination, I could make this work and be successful as these two ladies in the picture below. Amin.

These two pretty ladies are my new-old friends. It's great to meet new people, even though these girls are not considered as new, but in a way it is new. New level of friendship. Insya Allah.

    Written in the Stars

Yuna has never been a favourite to me, but this song actually captured my attention. Not bad not bad. The words lyrics are simple but fully allusive and infatuating.

Sail Away in 2012: First Quarter

Has it been a month already in 2012?

Yes it is. Time just won't wait for no man ey?

I feel that it was just yesterday it's 2011. Many things has happened and progressed in January and the beginning of February.

Here's some snippets of what has happened during these few weeks. Some are with pics and some are merely words.

    1. Dad turned 57 years old. Semoga ayah di panjang kan umur lagi. Amin.

    2. Aiman turned 10! Double digits age! Don't baligh yet! We are not ready!

    3. First fashion show of 2012. Reflection. We went to watch Yaya (Zaza's younger sister) in action on the runaway. That kiddo is professional! The fashion show was interesting. Portraying designs from various blogshops designers.

Yaya, far right, strutting her thing. Good job kiddo!

    4) Weddings! First wedding in 2012 that I attended was Akma's. Such a pretty wedding at the majestic Pullman in Putrajaya. She was extremely pretty in her tiered dress that was designed by Syaiful Baharim of Plaza Damas. Pictures please..

When she walked in. Unclear pic but this is the only pic that I have.

Cute couple. Congrats double A's (Akma and Aimran)

    Such pretty decoration.

With Dalia of Pretty Little Things.

Mel and Que Ariffin of Theme of Que Rafael. He did Akma's gorgeous nikah! Check out in FB!

    5) Went to Jakarta for wedding works. Refer previous post.

    6) Mel's Fun in the Sun Bridal shower. I had so much fun with the girls. One of the things that we do best. We had it at Zaza's family's luxurious service apartment in KL. OneKL uolls! A birdie  once told me the famous Dato' Michelle Yeoh lives at the top penthouse in the same building with her dashing red ferrari parked in one of those locked garage at the basement. Don't know if it's true...or not, but if it is, jolly well I am not surprised. Thanks to Za and cousin for letting us use the place to celebrate one of our best girlfriend Melly in conjunction of her last few months/weeks/days as a singleton. A beautiful place for a beautiful girl.

Happy girl. Hope you enjoyed it my dear.

     Khaisah bambam's third bridal shower.

     Doorgifts for everybody

     Our hi-tea buffet spread.

     Scrumptious food

Front porch with mini swimming pool. Played games and chitchatting activities.

    One for the memory!

    7) More weddings! Dalia Alkathiri is a good friend of mine, not for so long, but we clicked right away when we met in England. She was my housemate for a little while and we've become closer ever since. Her akad was last year in November, but such bummer I could not make it. Her reception was held yesterday and boy, she was a princess. Princess Dalia and Prince Ahmad. Just like Aladdin and Princess Jasmine. The wedding was what I imagined how it would be (we loved talking about our dream weddings while we were abroad) and I still remember the little things that she wished for her big day. Food was gloriously delicious. I have to say that was the best thing yesterday. I was naughty as I had two servings! With lots of lamb some more!  Food was by Zamzam restuarant in Shah Alam. Mehndi rice sedappp gileeee. These are the only two pictures that are not blur and the rest are not so nice.

    Prince Ahmed and Princess Dalia

    More to come!
